Service Oriented Architecture Aims to Reduce Silos and Enhance Customer Service

Conference Highlights Best Practices for Digital Services

Recently, over 75 State and local IT managers attended Arizona’s Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Conference to share best practices for improving government service and efficiency. Building upon the State’s Enterprise Architecture framework, SOA is the next step toward improving service and information sharing.

By utilizing SOA principles, State agencies will be able to streamline and share common customer services and eliminate unnecessary redundancy among agencies with overlapping business processes. This creates a better experience for government customers and saves State resources by reusing and sharing existing infrastructure.

“Service Oriented Architecture is an important initiative to increase government efficiency in Arizona,” said Arizona CIO Chris Cummiskey. “SOA is an important step on the path to breaking down information technology silos and providing better services to citizens.”

The Arizona SOA Conference 2007 was sponsored by the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology Magazine in cooperation with the Government Information Technology Agency.

Earlier this year, GITA in cooperation with State agencies unveiled five pilot SOA projects for the State.
