Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) - Goals

The primary goal of SOA is to make government services more accessible to citizens and customers where state agencies work more efficiently and effectively in the markets they serve.

The key in developing and implementing SOA, is to conduct a thorough analysis of existing application systems that will reveal important applications, functionality, and information assets that exist in multiple locations that can be used as service components for enterprise services.

In 2006, GITA held a series of SOA stakeholder awareness meetings to increase the understanding of SOA concepts, approach and business value for the state. At the conclusion of these sessions, GITA along with agency leadership identified potential SOA projects. After a selection process four SOA (multi-agency) pilot projects were identified to serve as models or case studies.
