State Project Management Certification
In
recent years, the knowledge and skills required to manage State technology
projects has increased dramatically. In response to this changing
landscape, the Government Information Technology Agency has developed a new
program to help agency project managers enhance their ability to complete
technology projects on time and within budget.
The State Project Management Certification program can provide your
employees with the necessary project management skills to effectively and
efficiently develop, implement and monitor State projects.
In the future, GITA anticipates that many high risk projects with
significant financial implications for the State will arise. To ensure that
these projects are managed effectively, GITA began collaborating with agency
CIO’s and the Arizona Government University on this exciting initiative to
respond to a shortage of qualified project managers.
The State Project Management Certification program consists of three major
components:
1. An intensive,
week long class in Project Management taught by an instructor
certified by the Project Management Institute. Upon completion of
the class, students take a comprehensive exam to measure project
management aptitude.
2. A one-half day
GITA class emphasizing State requirements in security, privacy,
enterprise architecture, policies & standards, oversight and project
investment justification.
3. An
attestation from the agency CIO or Director that the candidate for
certification has at least two years of project management
experience.
It is important for your agency to have State certified project managers. In
addition to improving your chances for completing a project successfully,
the Government Information Technology Agency and the Information Technology
Authorization Committee require major and/or agency critical projects be
managed by State certified project managers. |
