Mark Brnovich

Arizona Governor Janice K. Brewer appointed Mark Brnovich as Director of the Arizona State Department of Gaming in April of 2009. “I am proud to add Mr. Brnovich to my cabinet,” stated Governor Jan Brewer. “He has a great understanding of gaming issues in Arizona, and his legal expertise and experience will be essential in his service to the Department of Gaming and the State of Arizona.”

Prior to accepting this appointment, Mr. Brnovich served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, focusing on federal gaming related crimes. He has worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Internal Revenue Service, United States Secret Service, tribal investigators, the Arizona Department of Gaming and other law enforcement agencies to prosecute criminal activity and coordinate crime prevention programs.

Mr. Brnovich has also served as Assistant Attorney General in Arizona, where he represented the Arizona Department of Gaming and provided legal advice pertaining to legislation, contracts, licensing and regulation of Native American gaming. Previously, he worked as Judge Pro Tem of Maricopa County Superior Court, Deputy Maricopa County Attorney and Command Staff Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army National Guard.

In addition to his legal career, Mr. Brnovich has served as a Senior Director for Corrections Corporation of America and as Director for the Center for Constitutional Government at the Goldwater Institute. He is the author of numerous published studies and editorials concerning constitutional related issues and has appeared as a guest analyst on television and radio programs.

Mr. Brnovich holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Arizona State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law. He is admitted to Practice in Arizona, California, U.S. Federal District Court for Arizona, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
