GITA Responsibilities
The
Government Information Technology Agency (GITA) is responsible for statewide information technology (IT) planning,
coordinating and consulting. The GITA Director serves as the Chief Information Officer for state
government. GITA has responsibility to administer the state's Executive
Branch IT resources, including:

Establishing
and maintaining statewide standards

Serving
as statewide coordinator

Critically
evaluating and approving/ disapproving agency IT plans

Approve/Disapprove
IT projects with development costs over $25,000

Temporarily
suspending the expenditure of monies if an IT project is at risk of
failing to achieve its intended results or does not comply with state
requirements

IT
compliance with statewide policy regarding accessibility to equipment
and technology for citizens with disabilities
In
addition, GITA provides IT consulting services to agencies and staff
support for the Information Technology Authorization Committee (ITAC).
ITAC is an executive, legislative, judicial, and private sector committee
which has planning and oversight responsibility for information technology
projects over $1 million in all three branches of state government.
Legislation forming GITA and ITAC was established in 1996 and implemented
July 1, 1997.
